A Day of Firsts!

First 30 minute car ride!

First doctors appointment.

First day of hanging out down stairs with mom and dad all day.

They did great on the car ride, of course they didn't know it was icy, snowing, and we passed car after car that had skid off the road.

Doctor says they are doing GREAT! They are both putting on weight and all is well. Oxygen for maybe another week or so.

We have enjoyed a day in the living room instead of the nursery.

Maybe tonight we will tackle our first bath at home, or maybe we will just rest in all the firsts that the day has already brought our way.

1+1=4

Yeah - All are stable!

Quick update. Both girls are holding on strong and stable. We had a beautiful first night with Brooke in our room. There were tears of joy, questions about what to do, lots of giggles, so many kisses, and very little sleep.

This morning I was officially released from the hospital! My temperature has been down for 24 hours and my blood pressure is not great but stable! Now I can freely roam, even go out side, and yet I still get to sleep and eat here so that we are with the girls continuously giving them love and snuggles!

Thank you for the prayers and patience

Thank you all so much for your prayers, patience, all of the phone calls, text messages, and well wishes. We appreciate that you have given us space and grace! We feel like today is actually Day 1... here is a brief recap of the last week:

Wednesday 3/18:
Mom - Labor to emergency c-section, high fever, and high blood pressure but stable.
Abby - Pneumonia, lung troubles, and not feeling so well at all.
Brooke - A little hard time breathing and not feeling to good but not as bad as sister.

Thursday 3/19:
Mom - Started to develop Post Par tum Hypertension and Toxemia (high fever, high blood pressure, extreme swelling, and on the verge of seizures). That evening about 7pm rushed from nursery to bed and put on Magnesium, after 2 hours with no change in worsening conditions 3 very strong antibiotics were started on a 45 minute rotation. Given strict orders of minimum of 24 hours in bed... AHHHHH the pain of not getting to see my girls again.

Friday 3/20:
Dad - Is amazing and rotated between standing at the bed side of his 3 sick ladies, non-stop, 24 hours, then 24 more hours, then 24 more hours, and hasn't stopped yet.

Saturday 3/21:
Girls are stabilized, still in NICU on oxygen, IV fluids, and strong antibiotics.
Mom is taken off the magnesium about 7pm to see if stabilized. Still not feeling well and taking every bit of anything left just to try and nurse the girls every few hours.

Sunday 3/22:
All of us are stabilizing.

Monday 3/23:
Mom - taken of the 45 minute antibiotic rotation to see if body can fight on its own, first 12 hours have gone well, praise the Lord, temp and blood pressure still elevated but not extreme.
Brooke - taken off antibiotics, off the IV, and out of NICU, still on oxygen but in the room with mom and dad!
Abby - Still in NICU but is fighting the pneumonia hard! She is a fighter!

Next steps:
Hopefully mom is discharged in the morning.
Brooke will likely be discharged in the next day or so, she will remain on oxygen for some time still yet to be determined.
Abby has two more days of antibiotics, a few more xrays, and then at least 1 night not in NICU.

The great thing about a small town is that even though Brooke and I will be discharged, we will all get to stay in our little post op room that is two doors down from the NICU. We will be staying here until Abby is released and we can go home as a family of four. We are excited for our first night with Brooke in our room but we miss Abby and still go see her at least once an hour.

We will continue to limit visitors probably even after we are home since all 3 of us are now immune compromised. But we do truly treasure all of the love and support and most importantly the prayers.

Michael and I have had undeniably the hardest week of our life. We first and foremost praise the Lord for seeing us through the storm. We would also like to thank all of you for your help, love, support, and prayers. We look forward to giving you lots of improving updates and yes, finally some more pictures will be posted soon!

Abby Katheryn & Brooke Marie Warmuth

March 18,2009
Abby Katheryn, 6 lbs 2 oz, 18 3/4 inches at 11:40am
Brooke Marie, 5 lbs 8 oz, 18 3/4 inches at 11:41am

If you are interested in all the details they are below the pictures of our precious girls.

Update today is God is good! Both girls are on less oxygen and IV's. Looks like they will be in the nursery for at least 5 days so mom and dad won't get to have them in the hospital room. Abby is likely to need to stay beyond the 5 days and the blessing of a small town is they will let us all stay in smaller more hospital like room as long as Abby needs us to stay here, so we will not be separated. Please continue to pray for our family and check back for more pictures as mom and dad get more energy we will be up for more photos and more posts!
Grandma Jeannie & Brooke - 1 day old

Grandma Kathy & Abby - 1 day old

Mom & Brooke - in the OR

The view from mom & dad's room, it would be better if there were two beautiful girls in here but we know they are taking great care of them down the hall.

The Details...

Brooke Marie, 5 lbs 8 oz, 18 3/4 inches at 11:41am

My water broke at 12:02am, I called Michael at the station to come home and get his girls, then I called the Doctor to say we are on our way! A good friend Renia came and helped me get ready while Michael drove home. We arrived at the hospital at about 1:00am.

Contractions really kicked in about 1:30am. Labor increased and I progressed, about 6cm by 7:00am when my temperature started to rise and I asked for an epidural. The epidural helped me relax a bit but my temperature continued to rise very quickly. Just as quickly and high as my temperature rose so did both girls heart rates. At approximately 10:00am Michael and I were beginning to be concerned about their heart rates, shortly there after Dr. Kohn confirmed the concern.

We were very quickly prepped for c-section. The presence of Don Foster and Dr. Kohn brought a peace upon the Warmuth's. During surgery I was able to kiss each girl before they were taken to the NICU, it was clear they were having some trouble with infection and breathing. Michael was able to carry Brooke to the NICU and stay with both girls while all the assessments were taking place.

Abby was put on cpap machine, a stomach drain type of thing, and IV. She is likely battling pneumonia, her lung also was not collapsed but was not fully opening as it should.

Brooke was put under an oxygen tent and her IV was put in her cord because the feisty thing pulled out 3 IVs. She has a little less of infection and breathing troubles.

When they moved me out of recovery they drove my bed through the NICU so that I could see the girls and touch their hands and legs. This is when we called out to all of you for your prayers and support. Thank you!

At 4:00am today 3/19 they came to tell us that both girls were now on normal nasal oxygen cannula's and IVs, no other tubes or breathing assistance! PRAISE THE LORD! He has truly answered every prayer since they day we found out we were pregnant! I practically jumped into the wheel chair (thanks to the help of my awesome nurse Jamie Lemon) and was holding Abby within about 2 minutes! Then held Brooke for a while too. What an amazing moment to hold our girls in my arms and kiss their little faces!

After a little rest for all of us we were able to hold the girls again this morning and even tried nursing Brooke before lunch. By dinner time Abby wanted her chance at trying to nurse too. They are definitely sick and very tired so it may only be once or twice a day that we even get to try and nurse but what is most important is they are getting amazing care, lots of love and prayers, and getting better by the hour!

They are truly different little girls at their 24 hour birthday. Thank you Lord for your faithfulness and glory!

Should we start a birthday pool?

Well these girls are so healthy they are hanging out past the typical 37 weeks / full term for twins! At doctors appointment yesterday they passed the non-stress test with flying colors, no signs that my body is preparing for labor, they haven't dropped, etc. So now it is just wait for them to decide when they would like their birthday to be! We are praying for sooner rather than later, not sure how much larger this mama can get.

We will do a non-stress test every Monday and Thursday to make sure they are still getting all they need from the placentas, that there is still enough fluid around them to protect them, etc.

If they don't come on their on by March 25th we will have a c-section that morning.

We will post if anything changes.

Hospital - Practice Run!

36 Weeks! - We had an appointment at the hospital on Monday so Michael decided to use that as a practice run for loading the car and getting all 4 of us to the hospital for the BIG Day!

Boys vs. Girls
Dad's bag is the 1 small blue bag on the front right vs. 7 items for all the girls pictured, there are still 2 more not packed for the practice trip, plus whatever they give us at the hospital!

That was just practice! Now it is Wednesday and we are enjoying iced coffee beverages on our front porch at 10:00am in the middle of winter!
You have to love living in the Colorado High Country - Glorious!!!
Note the snow on the mountains in the background but we just have on sweatshirts!

I feel so blessed that I am getting to relax at home, with my husband, in such an amazing place, just awaiting the arrival of our girls! My heart is overflowing!
